Moira Shire Council’s Economic Development Unit is committed to:

  • Encouraging job creation, business growth and investment in Moira Shire
  • Attracting new business and capital to the region
  • Capitalising on visitor expenditure
  • Enhancing lifestyle opportunities for Moira Shire residents
  • Providing detailed information and feasibility studies on major regional business opportunities
  • Investing in industrial estates and other business infrastructure.

The Economic Development Unit currently comprises of five full time staff members, Economic Development Manager, Economic Development Officer, two Economic Development Support Officers and an Events Coordinator.

The objectives of the Economic Development Unit are:

  • Improving Council’s relationship with both existing and new businesses
  • Promoting awareness of Council strategies and economic development activity
  • Increasing business participation in Council programs
  • Creating a channel of communication between Council and business to effectively tap into the views of local business operators
  • Engaging the local media as a partner in the promotion of programs to develop the region and attract new businesses
  • Developing regard for Moira as a place to operate a business

The Economic Development Unit can assist with:

  • Guidance, advice and support on establishing new business
  • Planning, marketing and budgeting, location and selection of suitable premises and site
  • Facilitating development and encouraging new industry
  • Funding applications through the grants process
  • Providing other business support and incentives on a case by case basis
  • Facilitating and fast-tracking major investment programs
