Nathalia Open for Business- Live, Work, Invest
Background |
|
Nathalia is predominantly a rural area located to the west of Moira Shire, on the banks of the picturesque Broken Creek. The township is charming offering key services and a great sence of community.
From the late 1830's, early explorers saw the region's open grasslands as exceptional for grazing and through agriculture the area was settled.
Settlement for the area dates from the 1840's with the land used for grazing and farming. In the 1960's saw-milling also began in the region. Further growth in the region was minimal until the 1880's, when the construction of the railway occured and several new townships were established on the line.
Significant development occured during the post-war years, particularly from the 1940s to the 1960s, aided by the construction of public housing.
Today the surrounding rural land is used mainly for timber-cutting, grazing and crop farming. |
