Rural Skills Connect (North East)- Connecting Industry to Skilled Labour
The Rural Skills connect- North East initiative is a project aimed at addressing vital skills gaps in North East Victoria by utilising the transferable skills of the 'on farm' sector.
The project aims to match suitably credentialed and job-ready candidates with existing job vacancies. |
| Working in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, the Rural City of Wangaratta, Moira Shire Council and City of Greater Shepparton have appointed a [project manager- Greg Laidlaw- to work across the three shires engaging with industry ad potential employees. |
What will the project do?
- Engage rural people who have a range of skills considered a priority for regional economic growth, but for which formal regognition of theses skills may have not been obtained.
- Link appropriate employment and associated training opportunities to rural farming workers, owners and operators who have the skills to meet these needs.
What are the benefits to industry?
Available to local industry, it will provide:
- Accss to a job-ready and experienced local labour pool
- Transitional training support; and
- An opportunity to assist the surrounding rural community in a tangible way.
What are the benefits to the farming sector?
Available to rural farming workers, owners and operators, it will provide:
- An opportunity to participate in a detailed, individualised skill assessment
- Access to highly relevant, targeted training opportunities; and
- Access to flexible empoyment opportunities that seek to balance on and off farm employment oppotunities

Which industries are eligible?
A wide range of skills- important to regional industry in the North east- will be focused on during the project including (but not restricted to):
- Welding
- Transport
- Mechanical / Machinery Operation
- Horticultural
- Hospitality; and
- Aged Care
