Moira Shire Council's Champions of Business

Moira Shire Council is driving a Champions of Business leadership forum to help guide Councils support for business development and investment.

The Economic Development Unit developed the forum to address a gap in existing business networks. There are plenty of business associations and development groups in individual towns, but limited shire wide opportunities to bring business leaders together.

The Economic Development Unit created the Champions of Business concept and began recruiting business leaders that had not had a voice in the past. Leaders from various sectors and locations across the shire were invited to take part in the forum.

Moira Shire Council now has a broad cross section of business leaders to bring a fresh approach to take an advisory role, guiding Councils business development decisions and strategic direction.

The first Champions of Business meeting was held in May 2005. The objectives of the forum are to:

• Provide suggestions and advice to council on business development issues
• Provide a forum to discuss major business issues
• Assist council with investment attraction activities
• Provide a communication channel to the business community via the personal networks established
